There are a lot of terms to describe cleaning products. However, it usually takes some research on the customer side to figure out what is what. At Cleansio, we stand firmly behind our products and their descriptions. This results in us wanting to make sure you know exactly what our labels mean.
According to the CDC, in a 2014 study, nearly 12% of children in the United States have eczema or a skin allergy. The most common instruction doctors give to the parents of these children is to eliminate dyes and fragrances from their homes.
The American Academy of Dermatology instructs patients to “Select Fragrance-Free instead of unscented products to help prevent eczema.” Yes, there is a difference between fragrance-free and unscented products.
Whether you are seeking fragrance-free products out of preference or for medical reasons, rest assured that all Cleansio products contain zero fragrance.
Making products that are fragrance-free and dye-free mean that all of our products are also phthalates-free. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics:
“Phthalates are chemicals that are used in products that help bind the active ingredients to the color and scent. Studies are still being done, but phthalates are suspected to have unintended health effects, such as interfering with the hormone system.”
Although studies are still being done, we don't take chances adding unnecessary ingredients into our products.
A non-toxic product is defined by the Consumer Product Safety Commission as one which “contains no ingredients that have been linked to toxic responses in humans. Toxic responses are things like hormone disruption, poisoning, or cancer.”
To be honest, regulations have not caught up to how industries have been moving towards a non-toxic, more eco-friendly, list of options. The Consumer Product Safety Commission does not have firm standards and designations surrounding this language.
